Real Estate in Mazatlan 

Mazatlan was recently ranked by CNN Money as one of the best investments in Mexico for Real Estate. There is good reason for this ranking. Unlike some of the other popular growth areas in Mexico, Mazatlan has an extensive history and a strong economy which is not solely dependent on tourism. FONATUR, the Mexican government’s tourism development branch has not given Mazatlan much attention over the years and yet Mazatlan has grown in popularity as a tourist and retirement destination. Tourists that come to Mazatlan find what other coastal resort towns in Mexico lack, a city with a soul.  Living in Mazatlan provides the best of both worlds – old Mexico and new, modern Mexico. These ingredients have driven the demand for new residential developments.

One of Mazatlan’s most respected Newspapers, Noroeste, reported in February 2007 that over 50 tourism related projects worth an estimated $250M USD are underway for 2007. The majority of these investment dollars are for new condominiums and custom home developments for foreigners wishing to retire or live part-time in Mazatlan. All of this has occurred without the major influence of FONATUR which is behind the success stories of Puerta Vallarta, Los Cabos, and other booming areas. The boom has only begun and Mazatlan has all the right ingredients to make it a premier destination for a second home or permanent residence.
