Mazatlan Carneval Parade - 2007Carnaval (Mardi Grass) - February/March

The Mazatlan Carnaval is the world’s 3rd largest carnival after the Rio de Janeiro and the New Orleans Mardi Grass events. The actual Carnaval lasts for 5 days and it features street performances and parties like live music, dancing, food festivals, parades and carnival rides. The culminating point of the celebrations is the crowning of the Carnaval Queen. Prior to the Carnaval, there are plenty of events held across Mazatlan that include parades, fireworks, parties, and performances related with electing the Carnaval celebrities. Semana Santa (Holy Week) - March/April

The Holy Week is celebrated with abundance of live music, parties and other local festivities. A lot of the celebrations take place on the Malecon, where people are cruising and enjoying traditional banda music and the local delicacies.  


Triathlon - April/May

This international event attracts people from around the globe to compete in swimming, cycling, and running. You can check more info on www.maraton.org


Motorcycle Week - April

This international event attracts motorcycles from around the world. The festivities include drag racing, motorcycle expos, parades, and skill contests.


Sinaloa Festival of Arts - October

This month-long festival is organized in conjunction with the Angela Peralta Theatre. It features theatre, ballet, opera, music, and other performances.


Mexican Revolution Day - 20 November

It commemorates the onset of the Mexican Revolution celebrated by parades, fireworks, and fireworks


Mazatlan Marathon - December

This international Marathon is a 2-day event open to everyone including wheel-chaired and the visually impaired. For more information please see www.maraton.org

 

Image Camino de Arte

First Fridays Artwalk is a self-guided tour of artist studios and galleries in Mazatlan's Historic District.

Tourism Up

In the 1st quarter of 2009 tourism to Mazatlan has increased by 18.33% as compared with the same period of 2008.

SATL in Mazatlan

In January Mazatlan became a destination for the American Society of Travel Writers (SATL). 87 reporters representing publications such as Travel Weekly, Travel News, Travel Agency Magazine & West Ways visited Mazatlan to learn more about this destination and feature it in their publications.

Teacapan Mega Project

The President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, has placed the first stone inaugurating a mega project in Escuinapa/Teacapan. The project is supported by FONATUR and it will be “the New Cancun” with 2000 hotel rooms scheduled to be available by 2012. Once completed the overall complex is to include four golf courses, two marinas for a total of 1,000 vessels, 44,200 hotel rooms, a five mile beachfront walk, and a light railway.
